Buspar can be taken with or without food. However, food does affect how much Buspar is absorbed, so to get a consistent effect it should always be taken either with or without food. For example, if taking it every morning with breakfast, then continue to take it at that same time during the meal each day. Don't take it with breakfast one morning and then switch to midmorning on an empty stomach the next.
If using the DIVIDOSE type of tablet, it's important to get the right dose by breaking the tablet in the right place. To do so, hold the tablet between the thumb and index finger, with the thumb on top, close to the right groove in the tablet with the groove facing up. Then, press down with the thumb until the tablet snaps into two pieces.
Missed Doses
If a dose of Buspar is missed by a couple of hours, take it as soon as remembered and then get back on track with successive doses. If it's almost time for the next dose, however, skip the missed one altogether. Never take a double dose in an attempt to "catch up." Taking Buspar at regular times of the day can help prevent missed doses.
What If I Take Too Much Buspar?
Overdosage symptoms may occur if too much Buspar is taken. Call a doctor if any of the following symptoms are noticed:
- nausea and vomiting
- dizziness
- drowsiness
Buspar Storage
